(Note: a companion piece indicating an actor from the same Noh play is also available for the same price [#A1AHb] - indicated by final pictures.) "Legend says that O-e Hiramoto (1148-1225), one of the famed Japanese warriors, was converted to Buddhism, became a priest, and went to China in order to practice the austerities. One day during his sojourn in China he met with the spirit of a lion who suddenly appeared in his presence from among blooming peonies and performed a beautiful dance when he started to cross a stone bridge. This legend represents each Buddhist believer's ecstatic world with birds singing and flowers smiling, and is dramatized in the Noh play entitled 'SHAKU-KYO' or 'Stone Bridge'." --From Publisher's note attached verso.  

ASADA Benji (1899-1984) "Pagoda of Ninnaji Temple in Kyoto"; oban tata-e (14½" x 9½"). Signed "Asada" in Japanese with Uchida (publisher) seal underneath; "UCHIDA" watermark in lower margin near the kento notch. Ca. 1930s. Condition: good to excellent; very slight toning in visible area; some tape residue verso; full margins; deckle edges top, left, and bottom.  

ASANO Takeji (1900-1999) "Tsukubasan jinja (Tsukubasan shrine)"; oban tate-e (13" x 9"). Signed "Asano ga" in LR margin; dated Showa 19 (1944): rare first edition from WWII. Condition: very good; very slight toning throughout; tape residue on four corners verso; full margins.  

ASANO Takeji (1900-1999) "Drizzling rain in Nijyo castle, Kyoto"; oban tate-e (14¼" x 9½"). Signed "Asano ga"; undated: later edition originally published in 1953 by Unsodo Han. Carver: Okura; printer: Shinmi. Condition: very good; tape residue in middle of left margin verso; full margins with Unsodo "Gei" watermark in lower left margin; deckle edges top and bottom; kento notch lower right.  

Ono BAKUFU (B. Ohno) (1888-1976) Rice reaping; oban tate-e (14½" x 9¾"). Signed "Bakufu" with red Bakufu and Shinagawa seals; published by Kyoto Hanga-in (1953). Condition: very good to excellent; very slight toning; full margins.  

Ono BAKUFU (B. Ohno) (1888-1976) Bamboo; oban tate-e (14¼" x 9¾"). Signed "Bakufu" and "B. Ohno" with red Bakufu seal; published by Kyoto Hanga-in (1949). Condition: fair; toning around margins, not affecting image; parts of margin missing UL and UR (where it was attached to presentation folio - included)  

Ono BAKUFU (B. Ohno) (1888-1976) Kurodani Garden in Kyoto (Spring); oban yoko-e (10½" x 15¼"). Signed "Bakufu" and "B. Ohno" with red Bakufu seal; published by Kyoto Hanga-in (1951). Condition: good to very good; very slight toning; left & bottom margins trimmed to ¼" from image; full right margin with deckle edge; some tape residue and old label verso; slight wrinkling in two places along right margin; unmounted.  

Miwa CHOSEI (b. 1901-1983) "Peony"; oban tata-e (14½" x 9¾"). Signed Chosei with Shinagawa seal LL; published ca. 1960s by Kyoto Hanga-in. Condition: very good; intact borders; ("KYOTO HANGAIN LTD.") stamped in red verso in lower border; slight wrinkling at top center and bottom center; attached at the top to presentation folio.  

Ide GAKUSUI (b. 1899) "Two Japanese Cranes ('Tancho')"; oban tata-e (14½" x 9½"). Signed with Gakusui seal; published by Watanabe Shozaburo. Condition: excellent; full borders with deckle edges left and top.  

Kawase HASUI (1883-1957) "Fuji from Narusawa"; oban yoko-e (9½" x 14¼"). Signed "Hasui" and dated "Showa 11" (1936); republished by Watanabe between 1945-1957 (6-mm seal LL). Condition: fair to good; tape residue around edges verso; moderately toned; otherwise intact.  

Kawase HASUI (1883-1957) "Snowfall at Kiyomizu Temple"; oban tate-e (14" x 9¼"). Signed "Hasui" with red Sui seal; Early edition originally published by Watanabe in 1950 (black 6-mm seal LR). Condition: good to very good; very slight toning; Two small 1-mm holes in upper left margin and foreground deck plank; full margins.  

Takahashi HIROAKI (Shotei) (1871-1945) "Mt. Fuji from Midzukubo"; oban yoko-e (10¼" x 15¼"). Ca. early 1940s. Condition: Good to very good: slight toning throughout; no folds, tears, etc.; intact margins (top and right with deckle edge).  

Yoshikawa KANPO (1894-1979) "Morning Mist at Sanjo Bridge"; oban tate-e (10½" x 15½"). Signed "Kanpo" and dated (Taisho 13 [1924]) with Sato Sho han seal LR; attached across the top to presentation folder. Published by Sato Shotaro; early edition. Condition: very good; margins trimmed left & bottom; otherwise no tears or blemishes.  

KASAMATSU Shiro (1898-1991) "Ame ni kururo to (Rainy evening at the Yanaka Pagoda)"; oban tate-e (15½" x10½"). Signed and sealed LR: "Kasamatsu" in Japanese; annotated in left margin with original publication date (1932); published by Shozaburo Watanabe (6-mm seal LL corner) ca. 1950 in limited edition of 200. Condition: very good; very slight toning; two pinholes in left margin; deckle edges, top and left.  

Tsuchiya KOITSU (1870-1949) "Owl", mitsugirii (14" x 7"). Signed "Koitsu" with Shin seal; originally published ca. 1950 by Doi Hanga-ten (probably a later restrike). Matted & framed (not examined out of frame).
