Maurice Compris was born in Amsterdam, Holland, but emigrated to the United States at an early age. He studied with Drake and Alebee and eventually settled in Rockport, Massachusetts. He was a member of both the North Shore and Rockport Artist Associations and won a prize with an exhibition at the latter in 1931.
