| Hand-painted Russian box from the village of Fedoskino, that is artist signed (in Russian) and dated ‘86. The miniature painting on this black lacquer box depicts a river flowing through the woods and is very well executed. The landscape on the removable lid, is a river scene in the fall; the trees are done in lovely fall colors (browns, greens and shades of gold) against a silvery-gold sky. This painting is a nice example of "translucent painting", which is typical of many Fedoskino artists. This box, which was brought to this country in 1987 by a Russian immigrant, is of a much higher quality than those being mass produced today and commercially imported. Condition is mint. Diameter: 3¼". |
