An very unusual piece of carved Chinese soapstone with beautiful color. The plaque is intricately carved with trees, leaves and berries and a single animal, which are all carved in high relief from a single piece of soapstone. The plaque is rather flat (~¾ inches in thickness) and fits into a carved brown soapstone base. Condition is excellent with only a minor (barely visible) chip to a leaf. The back of the plaque has a small hole in it that looks like it was intentionally made. Height of plaque in base: 9¼"; width in base: 5½".
