This is a magnificent Victorian plaque of carved meerschaum. We bought this from a meerschaum pipe collector. It is as beautiful as the best ivory carving without having to use the tusks of a unfortunate elephant.
The allegorical carving is in the Greek twon of Chardia and portrays a woman and six putti. The piece is artist signed Schareiverk. It is in excellent condition with some yellowing on one of the putti which is part of the patima. This is a very rare and desirable piece.
