Antique American textile - crazy quilt made of velvet patches and lined with strong cotton. Made USA circa 1920. <P><P>
Measurements: approx 69 X 73 inches. <P><P>
Black velvet border surrounds and holds the edges of the quilt, both front and back. The front or top, consists of patches of velvet, in a wide variety of colours and shapes, brilliantly sewn together with fancy twisted and knotted stitches. All hand done. The back of the quilt is made of a strong cotton fabric with a delightful pattern of foliage in pinks, greens and red on a turquoise background. The fabrics, both front and back are all very well preserved. I did not see any damage/loss when I opened it up to take the 'photos. These colours will only get better as they age, although they are still vivid and bright now. <P><P> |
