The side of the container is pierced in a lattice pattern. Possibly an advertising give-away, it is made of brass and depicts Julius Caesar on the lid. On the base is marked: ''Hinks & WElls/ S. Gaffre/ Deposee (Patented) Mai, 1865''. Hinks & Wells were steel pen manufacturers from Birmingham, England, starting in 1836. Height: 1 7/8''; diameter: 1 1/2''.
