This is a vintage, probably pre-30’s kaleidoscope. This vintage piece is made from a hard cardboard tube with tin end fixtures. The sides are covered with a brownish yellow wallpaper type paper that has green snowflakes. The top is covered with a plain gold paper . This kaleidoscope does not have a rotator cuff. Rather you hold it and rotate. The eye piece is a small 3/8” hole that you peep through. It has multiple edged optical designs. The body is 9 5/8 inches long with a 2 3/8 inch diameter. The exterior has an area of about 1inch in diameter where the decorative paper has been ripped off. There is what appears to be a water stain down the length of the piece. The ends show some oxidation through the years. The unmarked piece is in good condition for its age. |
