Sebastian Miniatures Malvolio Sebastian miniatures Malvolio is 3.25" tall and dates from 1950. The P W Baston mark is incised in the side of the base, along with the copyrite date of 1950. There is a remnant of a white, rectangular label There are no chips or cracks, but he has lost a little paint at one spot in his hair, and there appears to be a slight paint rub on his hose. The hair could be easily retouched since it’s not a solid color, but since I’m not in the retouching business, I’ll leave that for you to do. There are no chips or cracks, and the rest of the paint is great! If you’re interested, the story of Malvolio follows.

Malvolio is the steward of Countess Olivia in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and here is that story.. Malvolio is Olivia’s steward. He is a pompous fool who secretly aspires to be her love. Annoyed by his conceit, others concoct a scheme to turn Olivia against him. A letter is forged in her handwriting, leading him to believe she returns his love. He is conned into smiling continuously, wear cross garters and yellow, the color she abhors. When Oliva shows astonishment at his absurb behaviour, he keeps quoting parts of the letter until he is shut up in a dark room as a lunatic.

Sebastian MiniatureGeorge, Martha Washington Sebastian miniature George and Martha Washington – two separate figures and bases, 2.75" tall and 2.5" tall. Both have their titles incised in the base, and both are Marblehead, although the originals stickers are long gone. For years, my husband and I searched for the perfect George and Martha Washington figures – but George’s gun was so short, that we were sure that the tip had been broken off. We finally discovered, from the Sebastian Miniatures book by Johnson, that the gun stock was supposed to be that short! There are no chips or cracks on either of this pair, and the paint on both is great!

mm2259

Sebastian Miniatures Swedish Boy and Girl Sebastian Miniatures Swedish Boy and Girl were produced in 1948, during the Marblehead era, and only 500 were made of each. They show typical Marblehead yellowing, and they have great paint, although the pictures tended to glare it out a bit. The Swedish girl dancer has a tiny chip on the rim of the base, and while there is no chip on the end of her cap, there is a paint skip there. There are no stickers on the base, but the name is embedded around the base, along with copyright 1946. The Gold Book, put out in 2001 by the Sebastian Miniatures Club, shows their price to be $150 to $175 each – or $300 to $350. My price, however, is only half of the lowest price -- $150 for both!

Sebastian Miniatures Mr and Mrs Beacon Hill Sebastian Miniatures, Mr. and Mrs. Beacon Hill, date from 1947 when R H Stearns Co, the most lavish Boston department store at that time, celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1847. The store commission a cartoonist for the Boston Herald newspaper to caricature typical Bostonians, and Mr. and Mrs. Beacon Hill were produced. Mr. Beacon Hill is proceeding across the Boston Common with his umbrella and green baize bag, surrounded by squirrels and pigeons. Mrs. Beacon Hill is waiting "under the clock at R H Sterns." She carries the inevitable umbrella. Each has the Baston mark on the edge of the base. Both have their names on the top of the bases. Made only in the Marblehead era, each lists for $70 to $85 in the 2001 Edition of the Gold Book. Other than slight paint wear on the umbrellas, bags, and hats, they are in great shape.
