Circa: 1950 Size: 3.25 Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: Sebastian Miniatures
Sebastian miniatures Malvolio is 3.25" tall and dates from 1950. The P W Baston mark is incised in the side of the base, along with the copyrite date of 1950. There is a remnant of a white, rectangular label There are no chips or cracks, but he has lost a little paint at one spot in his hair, and there appears to be a slight paint rub on his hose. The hair could be easily retouched since it’s not a solid color, but since I’m not in the retouching business, I’ll leave that for you to do. There are no chips or cracks, and the rest of the paint is great! If you’re interested, the story of Malvolio follows.
Malvolio is the steward of Countess Olivia in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and here is that story.. Malvolio is Olivia’s steward. He is a pompous fool who secretly aspires to be her love. Annoyed by his conceit, others concoct a scheme to turn Olivia against him. A letter is forged in her handwriting, leading him to believe she returns his love. He is conned into smiling continuously, wear cross garters and yellow, the color she abhors. When Oliva shows astonishment at his absurb behaviour, he keeps quoting parts of the letter until he is shut up in a dark room as a lunatic. |
