Circa: 1890's Condition: Excellent Condition Size: Height-43 1/2" Seat Height-17" Width-25 1/2" Depth-25" Manufacturer: Heywood Bros. and Wakefield Co. This is a rare and unique natural Victorian arm chair. The unique aspect of this fine chair is the checkerboard pattern that was achieved through weaving green, bronze and natural reeds. The shape and style of this piece has a wonderful exotic Oriental look. The curlicued crest begins with a reed wrapped ball finial with alternating natural and green reeds. The back has a serpentine roll framed by braiding. Multiple weave patterns, beadwork, curlicues, birdcage and decorative cane wrapping add to the shapely ornate design. The seat is circular woven, rolling over onto the skirting. The front skirting connects the legs with beadwork, circles and braiding. The splayed legs are cane wrapped and embellished with birdcage designs and curlicues, ending in brass caps. This is a museum quality piece.
