Manufacturer: Shenango
8 in. diameter plate with possible logo for the Charleston and Western Carolina railroad. Formed in 1896, it was operated as a subsidiary until 1959 when it was fully taken over by the Atlantic Coast Line. Marked Shenango China U.S.A.RimRol WalRcc P-24 (date code for 1966). This was all I could find that it could possibly be. I can't say for sure that it is for this particular railroad, I simply could not find anything else(restaurant, institution, etc.)that it could possibly be. I don't know if the ACL operated it under the original name after taking it over or not, or how long they operated the line. It is not a reproduction though, as all decorations, including backmark, are underglaze. Green laurel twist border with green logo and gold edging. No chips, cracks or crazing, just some minor utensil marks. Gold edging is not worn off. Purchased from a local RR collector's estate. An elegant addition to any china collection! |
