THE 1876 CAPE COD COLLECTION The glassware of the 1876 Cape Cod Collection is reminiscent of early American pressed glass called “Sandwich Glass”. It featured lacy, intricate designs, fine background stippling, and exquisite brilliance which reflected the superb craftsmanship of its makers. Many of the detailed designs of this prized glass were produced by the Boston& Sandwich Glass Works founded on Cape Cod in 1825. This unique Avon 1876 Cape Cod Collection was inspired by the classic Roman Rosette pattern. The collection name commemorates both the spirit of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and, Cape Cod, the area where Sandwich glass originated.
