The English Foxhound and the French Hound were crossed to originate this breed that lives for the sole purpose of chasing the fox over hill and dale in pack with other hounds. Throughout the southern part of the United States, the American Foxhound is most common. The master can tell whether his dog has discovered the scent of the hunted for or has lost it, merely by listening to the deep throated bay of his dog.
