Virupaksah Lokapala, King of the Nagas. Bonded Seller offers this Chinese bronze of Virupaksah Lokapala, Guardian of West, King of the Nagas. Said to be from the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644 a.d. Imported to this country in the mid 1930's by a well-known oriental dealer in St. Louis , Mo. and appraised in the 1940's for over $5,000.00. It is in fine condition in a beautful patinated goldleaf finish, which is the mark of all truly important religious or other figures from China and the orient. If an item does not have goldleaf, it is not an item of veneration-- just "tourist" goods.
Please note the iron armature cast into the legs and body of this figure (see photo). This is the same technique used since the Renaissance to insure the strength of a standing figure. See the fierce and scowling face. Warlike stance and menace radiate from this figure. I can attest to the fact that in the 25 + years that I have had this figure, no Nagas have ever given me trouble.  

Ten inch Japanese Edo/Meiji Porcelain Figure Bonded Seller offers this 10 inch tall porcelain figure of a Japanese young woman in an elaborate costume with a peony flower in her hand. It is from the Late Edo Period or early Meiji Period (19th Century). The modeling of the figure is exquisite, the painting is meticulous in detail, the photos really do not do it full justice. There is a gold medalion design on the orange jacket,a gold scroll on the black collar and cuffs, the pattern on the skirt is painstakingly carried up and down the folds of the fabric. Look at the carefully painted cheeks and lips,the ghostly white powder contrasting with the black eyelashes and eyebrows. Only a master painter could have produced such an item. Unmarked as to country of origin, which places it well before 1891. One tiny flake on the skirt bottom--possibly a firing flaw, too tiny and well hidden to notice.

Miniature Oriental Brass/Cloisonne Oil Lamp Bonded/Insured Seller offers this 5 inch tall oil lamp, brass, glass, cloisonne, marked H.K.MADE (Hong Kong). Sometimes called opium lamps. Complete, with all original parts including glass top, burner with unused wick, glass-holder, font for oil. Three ball feet. Appears never used, but has nice natural age-patina. (Not returnable unless complete with all parts and all fitting together)  

Pair of Pre-Nippon Vases Bonded Seller offers this large decorative pair of vases, 12 1/2 inches tall, hand-painted oriental ceramic with plum blossoms, trees and mountains in the background. The condition is good, the colors are good, the gold on the handles shows some typical very minor wear; overall a spectacular pair. These are not signed, which might indicate they were imported to the U.S. before the 1890's-era U.S. tariff act which required country-of-origin marks. Second picture shows the back of one of the vases.  

Chinese Cloisonne Saltdip & Pepper Shaker Set Bonded/Insured Seller offers this tiny vintage handmade Chinese cloisonne S&P set, probably from the 1920's-1930's. Stacked, about 2 1/2 in. tall. Copper collars,base-rims, 3 tiny feet and screw-in cap. Typical no-harm green oxidation on copper, no damage. Deep red with pink,white,green flowering branch, blue enamel interiors. Cloisonne means little cell, a complicated multi-step process with metal filaments fused to surface of an object to outline a design which is filled with enamel paste. Price is for the set.

Overall very good condition, we have not polished the brass which has nice natural patina.
