Mettlach Charger Titled Industry
Bonded/Insuredm Seller with all items guaranteed offers this 17 3/4 inch diameter china Mettlach charger, or plaque by Villeroy and Boch, possibly titled INDUSTRY, jasperware finish in green/sage-green ground with a Greco-Roman scene with cameo-style white figures in high relief and wonderful detail. Left to right: seated female figure holds a vase, standing center female figure holds a distaff which holds wool/flax,etc. to be wound off as thread onto the spindle she holds in her right hand...for making cloth. The kneeling male figure on right has a geared wheel and a sledgehammer. Back rim pierced for a hang-wire and marked: Mettlach, VB, GES-G SCH, Reg. U.S. Pat Off., Made in Germany, 2875,and other marks. These were sometimes associated with trade unions, Expositions, Worlds Fairs. Excellent original vintage condition.
