Chickering Antique Parlor Grand Piano
Magnificent Chickering antique parlor grand piano. Completely restored. Length 6 ft. 5 in., width 5 ft. 1 in., ivory keys. This piano is a beautiful pre turn-of-the-century Chickering Victorian parlor grand piano in carved mahogany, circa 1890.
Chickering - A Brief History<br> Jonas Chickering lived in the Boston area and was apprenticed to Benjamin Crehore around 1815 to learn instrument making. It was here that he developed his skills as a piano builder. After working for another builder and acquiring experience he began his own business in Boston in 1823. From the very first Chickering's pianos were of superb quality and design and coupled with a partner who was good at marketing his pianos became known throughout all of North and South America. In 1843 he incorporated his concept for a cast iron frame in a concert grand piano, and an improved version of this piano received unparalleled praise at the first International Exposition held in 1851 at the Crystal Palace, London, winning the top awards. In 1852 Jonas made his three sons Thomas, Frank, and George partners in the firm. In 1867 following the great Paris Exposition of 1867 Frank Chickering had the Imperial Cross of the Legion of Honour, then one of the world's most prestigious non-military awards, bestowed upon him by Emperor Napoleon III for services to the art of music. The Chickering pianos built up until around the Second World War are considered to be second to none and some of the concert grands built around the period of the late 1800's to around 1925 have some of the most powerful and rich sounds possible, especially in the bass.

Rare Imhof & Mukle Orchestrion Music Machine
Rare turn-of-the-century Imhof & Mukle Orchestrion music machine in perfect working condition. Using a wooden barrel (10 extras included) and over 100 pipes these machines played music of the day as well as classics and operas. They were used in music halls, private homes, and houses of entertainment for men back in the 19th C. It plays soft beautiful music of flutes, clarinets and violins. Imhof and Mukle was established in Germany in 1845 and was a major builder of large automatic orchestras (orchestrions). They moved to London in about 1895 where this incredible machine was made. Originally running on heavy weights hanging from the back of the machine (like a grandfather clock) this was converted to electricity for easy use. Can be converted back to crank anytime. This is one of the larger machines of which few survived and even fewer made it across the long ocean voyage. This orchestrion has a variety of pipes simulating flutes, violins and clarinets. It also has a drum in the back which can be turned off at will. You are guaranteed a WOW when your guests push a button to hear a full orchestra in this fantastic victorian cabinet.

Steinway "Centennial" Concert Grand c. 1875
Restoration of this piano is now complete. Every part has been worked on. New pin block, action, strings, redone sound board, and refinished. The case is absolutely gorgeous. Steinway built only around 400 of these Centennial Concert grand models. It is not known just how many still exist, but certainly it cannot number more than 50-100. These are the only full-plate, Steinway 'D's built with the gorgeous, heavily carved, serpentine legs, carved case, and ornate music rack. Steinway wanted to discontinue the older style Rococo case and make their pianos with the new style turned leg and their newly patented modern action, but to commemorate our country’s 100th birthday, in 1876, they decided to make a one time limited edition of their famous first piano. It was called the Centennial. It featured the old style rococo case with Steinway’s new patented action. The edition sold out immediately. The same action is still used today; even 125 years of technological advances couldn’t improve upon it.
