Song & Garden BIRDS of N. America
One of the loveliest of informational books from the National Geographic Society, this is SONG AND GARDEN BIRDS OF NORTH AMERICA, a colorful, 400-page hardbound book. Compiled by Alexander Wetmore and published by the Society in this 1964 apparent FIRST EDITION, the book features 327 species portrayed in 555 color illustrations and fully described in 130,000 words.
Although the book was published with a recording of bird songs, that is missing from this copy. But the images and information are there – and it’s a great contribution to anyone’s knowledge of the fascinating world of birds! (Personally, the many large photos made it most enjoyable to me – I’ve seen too many bird books with small color photos that really didn’t help all that much with identification. This one made it easy!)
Condition is Very Good, with no defects apparent anywhere on the book itself. The dust jacket is present, but has some edge and corner wear and slight separation of the lamination from the jacket. It’s a great one! (3284/r8)

1957 Peek @ Iowa Wildlife
A PEEK AT IOWA WILDLIFE was published in 1957 by the State of Iowa Conservation Commission, Des Moines, as a guide to the Commission’s traveling wildlife exhibit that visited schools throughout the state each spring to promote conservation.
A general description of animals in the state was provided, with specific information on the kinds of mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and other animals (amphibians, crayfish and mussels) in the exhibit. A short one-page quiz is printed at the end of the 26-page booklet.
Photos, drawings and cartoons illustrate this neat booklet, which was very well designed for elementary-age students. Drawings were by Bill Connor, photos by Jim Sherman and the neatly-designed cover by Richard Trump.
Here’s a booklet that would be valuable even to the grade-schoolers of today! It’s in Very Good condition with no defects beyond slight yellowing of the pages and covers. (2654/b)
