Racine’s ANDROMAQUE, French Reader
From the D.C. Heath Company’s Modern Language Series, this is RACINE’S ANDROMAQUE, complete with an introduction, notes and vocabulary by Benjamin W. Wells. Published in 1899, it’s designed for students of French, with the text in French and Wells’ notes and introduction in English.
One of the most popular of the French classical tragedies, it has intrinsic merits for its endurance on the French stage, where it marked a turning point in French drama development. A black/white portrait of Racine in on the frontispiece.
The little (4.75 by 6.75 inches) hardbound book has 147 pages and is in Very Good condition overall. There are a few scuffs and some minor wear on cover corners/edges. Writing appears on the endpapers, with a few pencil notes inside. Still, it’s a good one! (5991)
