Viewpoints on the Environment
THE ENVIRONMENT: COSTS, CONFLICTS, ACTION gives first consideration to human ecology and man's survival, followed by discussion of resource demands and predictions of world energy needs. Environmental assessment and management are shown as ways to get what we need. Final attention is given to the various local, state, federal and industrial programs being implemented to solve the problems.

Written by various authors to represent an array of different viewpoints, it was edited by John Cairns, Jr., and Kenneth L. Dickson; published in this FIRST PRINTING in 1974 by Marcel Dekker, New York. Hardbound. 156 pages. Index. Ex lib with usual library markings.

Very Good condition with very minor bumps. We see no defects on inside pages. Offers an understanding of basic environmental issues, as well as an accurate picture of the variety of viewpoints surrounding them. Difficult to find! (2083)

Hidden Assassins, Food Hazards

Booth Mooney's THE HIDDEN ASSASSINS is a shocking account of the hazards in the food we eat and the need for safeguards to protect our nation's health. Published in this FIRST PRINTING in 1966 by Follett Publishing, Chicago, the 230-page hardbound book discusses numerous potential dangers.

Included are food-processing chemicals, food additives, pesticides, illegal industry practices, adulterants, contaminants, filth and more. Mooney cites case histories and provides careful documentation to show that these are not simple problems. Neither the government nor the food industry, he says, gives the consumer adequate protection.

The book is in Very Good condition, although it is ex lib with the usual library markings. The cover are protected by a Mylar-covered dust jacket and there are no apparent defects inside or out.

The true stories here are chilling … and one must wonder how much the food industry has changed in the past 30 years. It's a frightening view - and worth reading for your own protection! (3129)

Designing the Future, 1960s Tech Forecasts
The exciting possibilities for future technological development are explored in DESIGNING THE FUTURE, THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING, a pioneer work on technological forecasting in American society.

Author Robert W. Prehoda demonstrates that it is not utopian thinking to expect that we will be able to cure the aging process, extending the lifespan 100 years, 200 years, or indefinitely.

Human hibernation or suspended animation may allow many to bypass the immediate future and emerge in a golden age with the vigor and industry of youth reawakened. Bacterial and viral disease, stroke, heart disease, and cancer may be entirely eliminated.

Computer-controlled teaching machines will painlessly impart new knowledge, and chemicals may improve memory and actually raise basic intelligence.

Technological forecasting will solve pollution and transportation problems. The space program will be expanded to include the exploration and possible exploitation of the entire solar system. . . and beyond.

Published in this 1967 FIRST EDITION by Chilton Book Co., Philadelphia, this is among the first comprehensive descriptions of technological forecasting, which the author says will be an increasingly important discipline using the scientific method to make accurate predictions of future biological and physical science achievements. Such predictions would allow control and guidance of scientific development leading to the optimum improvement of the human condition.

The 310-page hardbound book is in Very Good condition, although it is ex lib with the usual library markings. We see no defects on either the covers or inside pages, and the dust jacket is present and protected with a Mylar cover.

It's a fascinating 1960s look at many of the changes we've already seen! A great one! (3081)
