TABLES AND INDEX TO THE CODE OF IOWA, 1991. Included in the lengthy, unpaginated hardbound book are tables that were previously published in Volume III of the Iowa Code, including the table of internal references, conversion tables of Senate and House files to chapters of Iowa Acts, tables of disposition of Iowa Acts, and the table of corresponding sections.

1950s Law: Borrowing, Lending Money
This revised edition No. 10 in the Legal Almanac Series published in 1957 by Oceana Publications, New York is LAW OF CREDIT, BORROWING AND LENDING MONEY and was written by New York Attorney Lawrence G. Greene. The series was designed for the informed layman as well as the lawyer, bringing non-technical treatments to a wide variety of legal subjects.
Among the topics in this 82-page hardbound book are payments and discharge of debts; bankruptcy; responsibilities of the husband, wife, father and minor children; corporations, partnerships and limited partnerships; secured creditors; real estate mortgages; negotiable instruments; small loans and pawnbrokers; usury; judgments; imprisonment for debt; collection agencies; statutes of frauds; bad checks; obligations of the serviceman and veteran; laws for relief of debtors; and much more. Charts in the back show interest rates and statutes of limitations.

1939 Iowa Motor Vehicle Laws
Compiled in July, 1939 and published by Commissioner of Public Safety Karl W. Fischer, this is IOWA LAWS PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLES. The little (3.25-in. by 6-in.) book has 202 pages of detailed information on everything from how abandoned vehicles will be disposed of to the meaning of traffic signs. It's all from Chapter 251.1 of the Iowa Code.
The laws have changed quite a bit over the years - and some of these are amusing! The book is in Good condition, although it does show some signs of its age and use. We're not certain if this had a cover, but none is present here. It's also possible that a page or two at the end of the index are gone. The title page has a tear at both top and bottom corners, and a stain has been wiped off the top corner. That stain goes on through the next 7 pages, but is light enough that the text beneath is still readable. Otherwise, the pages are clean, crisp and very readable. (2984)

Written by Paul Blanshard and published in this 1956 Second Printing by Beacon Press, Boston, THE RIGHT TO READ: BATTLE AGAINST CENSORSHIP offers a look at censorship and freedom of the press in post-McCarthy America.
The book is built around two questions: How much literary freedom exists in the United States? And how much should exist? In attempting to answer, the author acts as a part-time literary war correspondent, roving very rapidly over the most significant censorship battlefields of recent years.
To avoid confusion he discusses the questions not according to geographical location, but according to moral content, reviewing the great problem areas where censorship has become a factor because people consider the ideas in those areas worthy of protection. He tries to add to treatment of each problem-area enough moral speculation and elementary law to make this a practical handbook for the common reader who wishes to know why and how to defend the right to read.
Among the examples cited are changes made in the Girl Scout handbook (deleting references to 'one world' and internationalism) as a result of attacks upon it for recommending such ‘un-American’ books as Langston Hughes’ The First Book of Negroes.
Still timely, provocative and important, the 339-page hardbound book is in Very Good condition, although ex lib with the usual library markings. There is some minor edge/corner wear to the covers, but inside pages have no apparent defects. Interesting! (6114/red9rev)
