Sophie’s Choice, Uncommon Love Story

Transformed into a major motion picture starring Meryl Streep,SOPHIE’S CHOICE is a love story so hauntingly evocative that it, and its heroine, become an indelible part of the reader’s imagination!

Three stories intertwine in the pages of this 515-page hardbound book, published in this First Trade Edition in 1979 by Random House, New York. They tell of the lives of Stingo, a young Southerner wants to become a writer; of Nathan, a brilliant Jewish intellectual and Sophie, a beautiful Polish woman who are embroiled in a turbulent love-hate affair; and of an awful wound in Sophie’s past -- one that impels both Sophie and Nathan toward destruction.

The book is in Very Good condition with no noticeable defects beyond a slight looseness in the front hinge. Covers and pages have no apparent defects. The dust jacket is present and also Very Good, with very light edge/corner wear. (5632/r35)

Shadow of the Moon, 1800s Epic

SHADOW OF THE MOON is a terrifying, enthralling look at the wild, disastrous year of 1857. Written by M.M. Kaye, whose works in long novels have been compared to the very best, the hardbound book was published in 1979 by St. Martin's Press, New York.

The story takes place in India-under-the-Raj in the 19th century, with a vivid description of the great Indian Mutiny of 1857. With the gifted vitality that is so special to her writing, Kaye involves the reader in the lives, loves and deaths of scores of characters - English, American Indian and some who are both. All are caught in the terrible flood of revolution.

The book is in Very Good condition with a couple of minor scuffs on the front cover and a minor spine crease. A previous owner's bookplate is on the inside front cover with a price notation on the following page. Inside pages are without apparent defects - they're clean, crisp and ready to enjoy! (3061/rO)

War, Sabotage, Oil Prices Here's the latest spell-binding thriller from Alistair MacLean -- about an enormous, sophisticated, mobile oil rig called the Seawitch, anchored off the American coast in the Gulf. It's owned by a maverick oil tycoon billionaire who's out to beat the big companies at their own game.

Technologically advanced, the Seawitch can supply him with enough cheap oil to undercut prices on the world market -- and there's nothing his rivals can do about it -- at least nothing he can foresee. Then, the direct armed assaults and the deadly campaign of sabotage begin, carried out by a ruthless soldier of fortune determined to succeed at any cost.

It's an action packed story and one of the best of MacLean's 20 bestsellers. The hardbound book was published in 1977 by Doubleday and Co., Garden City, New York. It's in As New condition with no defects we can find. The dust jacket is present and Very Good with some minor scuffs. Great reading for a long evening. (2189/rR)

COLLINS: HOLLYWOOD HUSBANDS HC, DJ Written by Jackie Collins, who also wrote multi-million best seller and tv mini-series Hollywood Wives,HOLLYWOOD HUSBANDS is another block-buster.

Jack Python, Howard Soloman, and Mannon Cable have been competitive friends for years. Yet when Jade Johnson enters their lives, the least-expected one of the self-styled ‘Three Comers’ may have finally met his match.

Jade Johnson is a woman of the eighties. Strong, independent, a top New York model, she comes to L.A. for a series of million-dollar TV commercials. She’s a dangerously beautiful woman with personal integrity and a mind of her own. The Hollywood game fails to impress her, but slowly, surely, she is sucked in. And, high roller that she is, if she must play, Jade will play to win.

The 543-page hardbound book was published in 1986 by Simon & Schuster, New York. Condition is Very Good, with no apparent defects on the book itself. The dust jacket is present, showing some edge/corner wear and slight discoloration of the edges. (5131r20)

Cardinal Sins, Greeley HB Expose'

Thus book follows the lives of two Irish boys who grow up on the West Side of Chicago and enter the priesthood. One will remain a parish priest all his life; the other will become a powerful cardinal. We meet them in the last summer before they enter the seminary - the summer by the lake when they discover their sexual selves in the arms of two young girls whose love and lives will entwine with theirs all through the years.

We share their triumphs and tragedies as Pat rises to the center of power in the Vatican itself, surrendering ideals, yielding to sexual temptation, sharing forbidden pleasures, yet achieving success in the world's eyes. For Kevin, for whom refusal to surrender principle is both his strength and his failing, success comes in another guise.

Written by Andrew M. Greeley, this is THE CARDINAL SINS, a 350-page hardbound book. It was published in this 1981 FIRST PRINTING by Warner Books, New York.

Condition is Very Good, although a spill on front of the dust jacket caused it to stick to front covers of the book. It's repairable. The dust jacket also shows some minor edge/corner wear and slight yellowing on edges. (r13rev)

Simoni's Lover, Israeli Family, War, Love

Jenifer Levin established herself as one of America's finest young writers with her novels Water Dancer and Snow. In SHIMONI'S LOVER, published in this 1987 stated FIRST EDITION by Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich, New York, Levin tells another great story.

It's the deeply moving story of the Kols of Kibbutz Mayan Ha-Emek: Yael, who sent four sons to war; Nadav, wounded in the 1973 war and unable to come to terms with his survival; Rafi, a rebel and outcast who thinks only of escaping to America; Michael, the youngest, a papatrooper and Arab-hater. Shimoni, a military hero died a grisly death, and now haunts them all. His ghost torments the Kols and his lover, who has secrets of her own.

The 378-page hardbound book is in Very Good condition, with no apparent defects to the covers. The only apparent defect inside is a previous owner's name handwritten on the front endpaper. The dust jacket is present and also Very Good, although it does show slight scuffing and very light edge wear. Still, a great book … in great shape … at a great price! (3248/rQ)

The 350-page hardbound book was published in 1997 by Warner Books, New York. It is in Very Good condition overall, but shows a small scuffed area on back cover. The dust jacket is no longer present. (5133r20)

Sea of Light, JENIFER LEVIN HB

According to one reviewer, The story here is a brave one: how, after hurting one another so badly, human beings can also manage, against practically all odds, to heal one another as well.

Another called it …a beautiful and moving journey of love and loss in which people's lives interweave and ripple outward until time itself becomes a character, leaving the reader with a deeper understanding of the power and mystery of life.

The book is THE SEA OF LIGHT, written by Jenifer Levin and published in this 1993 FIRST PRINTING by Dutton, New York. The story is of a driven swim coach, her star athlete and the battered survivor of a plane crash battling to regain her international competitive form as they work intimately together to heal their private hurts and pursue their common destiny.

Condition of the book is NEAR FINE, with only a previous owner's gift inscription on the front endpaper to take away from its newness. The dust jacket is present and has slight edge wear, as well as having the retail price clipped. (3260/rO)

White Lies: Love, Loyalty, Dishonesty Written by Jonellen Heckler and published in 1989 by G.P. Putnam’s Sons, New York, WHITE LIES is a powerfully moving novel of family love, loyalty, honesty and dishonesty. The story is of Sterling, Roz and Quinn, three sisters close in age by not in temperament, told through letters they write and received, from their college days to adulthood.

As they write back and forth, we see life at its most intimate – the thrill of new love, unquenchable ambition, outrageous success and white lie after white lie told to preserve relationships. It’s a remarkable portrait of family life as it really is – by a novelist of uncommon perceptions and integrity.

The 351-page hardbound book is in Very Good condition with no apparent defects. (5099-r20)
