Circa: 1953 Condition: Near Mint Publisher: Hody's Restaurants
Restaurant Name: Hody’s Restaurants, Los Angeles
Date: October 1953
Size: 8 pages, 3 by 6 inches.
Description: Here’s an unusual item of ephemera from Hody’s Restaurants In Los Angeles, CA. It’s a small booklet titled ‘Courtesy’ and details the company’s rules for courtesy to its customers. Under the signature of President Sidney Hoedemaker, the rules include: First, last and always, your job is to render the sort of service you, yourself would like to receive. Kindness to new and old customers, the importance of smiling, dealing with difficult customers, consideration and thorough service are discussed in a friendly, non-threatening manner. A separate section offers encouragement to customers to offer suggestions for improvement. The back cover lists addresses for the seven Hody’s in Southern California.
Condition: The booklet is near mint condition with few signs of use and no abuse. There are no tears or stains. Probably as near perfect as it was when it was printed! One note: when this was bound, the numbered pages were put in the wrong order – pages 3 and 4 appear before 1 and 2. Then, 7-8 and 5-6 follow. It can be easily remedied with a re-stapling!
