Circa: 1930 Condition: Very Good Type: Leather Wrap Covers Publisher: C.K. Smoley and Sons Publishers Author: C.K. Smoley Edition: 9 ISBN: Not applicable
Smoley’s Tables: Parallel Tables of Logarithms and Squares, Diagrams for Solving Right Trianges, Angles and Trigonometric Functions Corresponding to Given Bevels, Common Logarithms of Numbers, Tables of Logarithmic and Natural Trigonometric Functions and Other Tables For Engineers, Architects and Students was compiled by C.K. Smoley and published in this 1930 9th Edition, 5th Printing by C.K. Smoley and Sons Publishers, Scranton, PA.
The 5- by 7-inch softcover book (nearly 2-inches deep in pages!) has well-preserved leather wraps with page edges gilted. Notched tabs make for easy reference to specific sections of the text, with edges of the notches a pleasing red color.
Condition of this old-timer is Very Good. Pages are crisp and we see no apparent defects – no writing, tears, creases – on them. The cover is also without defects and its gold title imprint is still bright and clear. A previous owner’s name is written in pencil inside the front cover. Binding is in extremely good condition, only marked on front and rear endpaper with a few slight stains from the red ink used on the tabs.
Fortunately, this is one text we were not exposed to in journalism school! And that makes us even more deferential to those who studied engineering, architecture and similar topics!
