Ken Edwards was born in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated in sculpture and ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1959. After residing in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico for 4 years, he began the production of stoneware ceramics. The product that was developed was a combination of three factors: the world famous traditional Tonala hand-painted decoration; the ancient Chinese technology of reduction-fired celadon stoneware, and Ken's original designs. This revolutionized ceramic production in Tonala without losing its rich popular tradition. Ken Edwards is now retired and is presently living in Guadalajara.
