Circa: late 1800's-early 1900's Condition: used Manufacturer: Ojibway [Chippewa]
This hand sewn and beaded bag is in very good condition. I believe it to be from the late 1800's - early 1900's. Made from a skunk hide and beaded with colorful tiny beads it measures 26 in. long and is about 8 in. wide. I think this was made by the Ojibway [Chippewa] Tribe in the Minnesota area. Slight deterioration to the leather at the top opening. Normal for the age of this item. This would have been a pipe or medicine bag. There is a nominal amount of old, raw, tobacco in the bottom of this bag. The beads are sewn onto red flannel that measures 3.5 x 16 in. The flannel would have been trade goods. |
