This antique drawing is wonderful. It comes from the Main Line Philadelphia estate of one of the cities founding families who owned the largest mill in the colonies and came to Pennsylvania in 1682 with William Penn. James S. Treloar (Jaimee) was an American artist of great promise who studied in Paris from 1910 to 1914 during which time this drawing was done. He died in his early twenties. I have his portfolio from that time which includes approximately fifty drawings, some watercolors, handpainted wallpaper, art supplies and more. The drawings are on a heavy buff paper measuring 24" x 18". They were in a suitcase folded over for more than 80 years. There is a soft fold in all of them. My camera flash tended to wash out the details so I took the second picture without the flash (it is slightly blurred)and the side view picture on an angle to avoid the glare. His skill is evident in the musculature.
