In the following years he sang on Italian stages and in Paris and London. After renewing his studies with Giovanni Sbriglia in Paris, He made his debut as a tenor at the Teatro Real in the title role of Rodert le Diable in 1879.In 1890, at the climax of his career, he was engaged by the Metropolitan Opera. In America,he added to his already extensive repertory the heroic Wagner tenor roles. he confined himself strictly to stage performances and never appeared in the concert hall
