PL144

Fenton Christmas Plate, Christ Church, NIL color This is a NIL edition of Fenton's Christmas in America series. The 11th plate in the series issued in 1980 (8280), this is "Christ Church" in crystal velvet, rather than carnival or the satinized white or blue as originally sold. Perhaps just made to test the mold by using glass available at the time, it is a rarity purchased directly from Fenton by my parents, and the mold was destroyed after that year's production. It has one tiny bubble (about 1/16") near the bottom under the "u" in "Church", and priced accordingly.

PL145

Fenton Christmas Plate, Christ Church, Rarity This is an NIL oddity from Fenton's Christmas in America series. The 11th plate in the series issued in 1980 (8280-CN), this is "Christ Church" in amethyst carnival. Perhaps just made to test the face mold since the reverse is blank. But they did go ahead and add the carnival finish, so who really knows? It is a rarity purchased directly from Fenton by my parents, and the mold was destroyed after that year's production. It has one 1/2" "straw mark" at the nine o'clock position and priced accordingly.

Produced in amethyst, but it is not iridized like their carnival glass. Titled "The Old Brick Church" (8271-AY), it features a historic church in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. These plates were produced for only 6 months before the molds were destroyed. You won't find too many like this!

PL138

Fenton Christmas Plate, Old North Church NIL color This is the seventh in the Fenton "Christmas in America" series of plates. Titled "The Old North Church" (8276-AB), it features the Christ Church in Boston, MA. This particular plate is finished in Antique Brown, so it may have been a sample item. Consider it NIL, as the regular series were in White Satin, Blue Satin, or Amethyst Carnival. The mold for this plate was destroyed after the short original run in 1976.
