G323

Westmoreland Owl in Purple Marble This mint-condition owl was made by Westmoreland Glass in a special Purple Marble for Levay. Pattern #OOB-1, it stand 3.75 inches tall and is 1.75 inches in diameter. There were only 500 of these owls made in the purple marble. This one displays the Westmoreland trademark of a "W" superimposed with a "G". Made in 1978, and purchased by my parents in 1980. This is NOT a reproduction. You will note that the crystal eyes are missing. Frankly, I think it looks better without those weird glittering eyes, but since they ARE missing, I am pricing accordingly.

Westmoreland Glass, 1950-84 This book by Lorraine Kovar, published in 1991, is an excellent source for information on glass produced by Westmoreland during the period from 1950 to 1984, when the company closed. It includes a history of Westmoreland Glass, as well as thorough descriptions of the various lines with black & white catalog drawings and/or color plates. It also gives information on the general availability of most lines and whether there are any known reproductions. Extremely valuable source for Westmoreland fans. The book is in good condition, hardcover. There is a little wear on the cover, but the pages are like new.
