St. Clair and Joe Rice Paperweights

Paperweights by the St. Clair Glass family - Joe Sr., brother Bob & Maude, and newphew, Joe Rice. St. Clair Glass operated out of West Virginia up until the deaths of Joe and Bob, and now is represented by Joe Rice's House of Glass in Elwood, Indiana. They specialized in floral weights, special presidential sulphides, and rose weights, and this tradition is carried on by House of Glass today.

PW388

St. Clair paperweight This paperweight, which has been identified to me as being by St. Clair Glass, is a disk-shaped weight, 2.75 inches by 1. Molded in an open mold with a small log cabin and the words Home Sweet Home, the glass is an amber to red gloss with a carnival finish. Made c. 1987, it is unsigned and therefore I have not been able to verify that it is a St. Clair piece.

Joe Rice Bird in Nest Paperweight This is an absolutely delightful paperweight, a bird in a nest, clear glass over blue and white push-ups in the nest and blue and white swirls in the bird with controlled bubbles. The bottom is stamped Joe Rice 1989. (Joe Rice was a nephew of Joe St. Clair, Sr.) I just love this little guy and I don't think he'll be on the market long.
