Here is a great black transfer aesthetic plate in a star pattern. It measures 10 1/2 inches wide and is made of heavy ironstone with crazing that actually adds to the design rather than detracting from it.
The artist who added purple embellishments and yellow lustre to this black transfer design was quite skilled and extremely patient as judged by the accuracy of the additions. It is quite beautiful.
This plate bears the number of the artist plus some imprinted markings, one of which is a 1 over 64, which probably indicates that it was made during January of 1864.
Though it is transfered in black, its look emphasizes the purple. It would look great as part of a purple transferware collection. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, or stains. |
