Circa: 1940's
Enchanting would be the word for this vintage 1940's evening dress or gown. I can see someone whirling across the dance floor in this wonderful dress. The dropped-waist top is made up of a material that is row after row of threads. The skirt is 2 layers. The top layer is chiffon over a satin like taffeta. The measurements were taken while the dress was laying flat and multiplied. It is 18 inches from underarm to underarm, 40inch bust; 30 inch waist and 34 inch hips. The top measures 15 1/2 inches from the top of the front neckline to the chiffon skirt. The back measures 20 inches. From the hips to the hem , the skirt measures 36 inches. The dress shows some wear. There are 5 small holes that I can find and some light discolorations or stains in the skirt. The folds of the fabric hide them. There are 2 thread belt loops but no belt was with the dress. The dress closes with a side closure made up of 4 hooks and eyes and 9 snaps. The requisite 1940's shoulder pads are in good shape. The dress measures 56 inches from the neckline to the hem. Even with its flaws, I really love this dress. I can picture Ginger Rogers floating across the dance floor with Fred Astair.
