It wasn't until 1823 when the poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" was published that we began to see the early role model of the contemporary SANTA CLAUS forming. This beloved poem by Clement Clark Moore, now widely known as "The Night Before Christmas," created a winking, nodding elflike Santa that can magically move up and down a chimney and charge a reindeer powered sleigh.
