Theo Haviland Raised Seaweed Oyster Plate JUST REDUCED!

This elegant 8 ¾ inch oyster plate is in excellent condition. The underglaze green mark dates this lovely piece at about 1893. This date also corresponds to the January 10, 1893 grant of a US patent for the design. Oyster Plates by Jim and Vivian Karsnitz (© 1993), features a very similar plate on page 82, with a very rare four star designation. Karsnitz also provides the patent disclosure with design drawing on page 151. Jeffery B. Snyder's Collecting Oyster Plates (© 2002) features this very same plate on page 58, with a price indication of $695-765. The plate was made for J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, PA, as shown by the importer's mark (see also Snyder page 58). A truly special piece to add to your Haviland, Limoges and/or oyster plate collection.

TH001A
Theodore Haviland Floral Oyster Plate What a lovely oyster plate! Delicate flowers on exquisite porcelain make this oyster plate a must for the discerning collector. Five belon-shaped oyster wells (see belon oysters pictured below) surround the center sauce well in classic Theodore Haviland style. This plate is unusual and very desirable for its intricate, asymmetric plate shape and raised porcelain, designs depicting both waves and rose vines. The floral transfer decoration echos the porcelain rose vine theme. The mark, as shown on page 180 of Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges, dates this beautiful plate between 1903 and 1925. This piece is in mint condition and worthy of a place in the finest Haviland, Limoges and/or oyster plate collection.
