Rare Minton Bombay Majolica Oyster Plate
This is a beautiful Minton England Bombay pattern blue and oyster plate. It is in wonderful condition, with one extraordinary professional repair of a fleabite. We cannot even find where the repair was made,even under magnification. However, we did take a before photo, so if you are interested in seeing where the repair was made, please send your email address, and we will send you a photo.
Other than the restoration, the oyster plate is in superb condition, with some fine, clean crazing, in keeping with the age of this plate. The colors are fresh and crisp - not faded.
The diameter is approximately 9 1/2 inches. The mold number is 2245. According to Kovels, the mark is Mark B, and it was registered in November 1879.
This would be an elegant addition to any fine oyster plate collection, a wonderful decorating accent for a blue and white decor, or a fabulous gift for that special oyster plate collector.

Rare Classic Hand Painted Minton Oyster Plate
JUST REDUCED!
This is a beautiful hand painted example of a classic Minton shape. This plate is featured as rare on page 55 of Oyster Plates by Jim and Vivian Karsnitz (© 1993). Other Minton plates of similar design appear on pages 56 and 57 of Karsnitz. Collecting Oyster Plates, by Jeffery B. Snyder (© 2002), shows this plate on page 54, with a price indication of $650-715. The mold shape has six shell-shaped oyster wells, a round center sauce well and a kidney shaped well which Snyder refers to as a cracker/fish portion well. Here, the decoration uses delicate pastel tones to create a pearlecence effect. Pink flowers and black pearls form a band which separates the oyster and sauce wells. The overall presentation is stunning. Karsnitz shows the mark on page 55, below the plate. Kovels (© 1986) indicates that this mark came into use in 1912. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and very light crazing; it would make a fine addition to any Minton or oyster plate collection.
