Seaweed and Floral Porcelain Oyster Plate JUST REDUCED!

This plate is probably Austrian or German, based on the decorator marks, but it has definite similarities to a plate by William Brownfield & Sons which appears on the back cover and page 28 of Collecting Oyster Plates, by Jeffery B. Snyder (© 2002). We believe that this piece is from the same 1880s period. The floral transfers make a nice contrast with the gold-lined porcelain relief of seaweed. The five-well shape and softly defined center well also reminds us of the Charles Field Haviland Wave designs, from the same period (late 19th century), some of which also have a similar seaweed pattern (e.g. our Item #: CF009A). This plate is in great condition. There is one very small chip on the back rim where the plate sits - it can be seen in the photo at about 8 o'clock. Since it is on the back, it will in no way detract from a beautiful display. Other than that, there are no chips, cracks, repairs, etc. Its age-related gold loss does not detract from a beautiful overall impression. The gold-lined seaweed still sparkles. This plate displays beautifully and would make a fine addition to your antique porcelain oyster plate collection.

NE003A
Antique Porcelain Oyster Plate - Floral This lovely unsigned plate is in perfect condition. It has a beautiful floral transfer decoration on fine porcelain, which is characterized by its detailed relief work and marvelous translucence. We date this piece somewhere between 1881 and 1918. There is little doubt but that it came from the famous C. E. Carstens/Weimar factory in Germany, because the porcelain mold exactly matches one our other listings, which is clearly marked with the Weimar shield (see item WR003A). Whether for display or loving use, this fine antique porcelain oyster plate, in mint condition, would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
