Crown & Rose pewter is made by Englefields, the last surviving pewter maker in London. In the 1700’s there were 400 such shops in London.
Englefields was founded in 1700, by Thomas Sattergood and, among other things, made bleeding pans commissioned by Florence Nightingale.
Only a London maker can use the Crown & Rose touchmark, established by Parliament in 1503. So, with all the other gone, Englefields has the de facto exclusive rights.
Each piece is handmade by the traditional methods of gravity casting and hand-turning, much as it was done 300 years ago and frequently with the same tools.
