This oyster plate is exquisitely designed and executed, with six radial oyster wells and a center sauce rosette. The scalloped plate shape with embossed porcelain and brushed gold trim flow beautifully together, while the intricate floral decoration raises the overall presentation to championship levels. The under glaze green manufacturer’s mark – Limoges/France with swallow – is that of porcelain maker Vultury Frères. In her Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain (Third Edition), renowned expert Mary Frank Gaston writes: "The Vultury factory was in business from about 1887 until 1904. Examples are rarely seen … ". This unique and exquisitely decorated piece, in perfect condition, is worthy of a place in the most magnificent oyster plate or Limoges porcelain collection. |
