JUST REDUCED!
This elegant 8 ¾ inch oyster plate is in excellent condition. The underglaze green mark dates this lovely piece at about 1893. This date also corresponds to the January 10, 1893 grant of a US patent for the design. Oyster Plates by Jim and Vivian Karsnitz (© 1993), features a very similar plate on page 82, with a very rare four star designation. Karsnitz also provides the patent disclosure with design drawing on page 151. Jeffery B. Snyder's Collecting Oyster Plates (© 2002) features this very same plate on page 58, with a price indication of $695-765. The plate was made for J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, PA, as shown by the importer's mark (see also Snyder page 58). A truly special piece to add to your Haviland, Limoges and/or oyster plate collection. |
