Vaseline Glass

Vaseline, a greenish-yellow colored glass produced by adding uranium oxide to the batch, was produced during the Victorian era. It was made in smaller quantities than other colors and lost much of its popularity with the advent of the electric light. It was used for pressed tableware, vases, whimseys, souvenir items, oil lamps, perfume bottles, drawer pulls, and doorknobs. Pieces have been reproduced, and some factories still make it today in small batches. True Vaseline glass will fluoresce under an ultraviolet light, or otherwise known as black light.

Vaseline Daisy and Button EAPG Celery Vase Vaseline EAPG Daisy and Button with Crossbars Celery Vase. This Vintage Vaseline Early American Pattern Glass Celery Vase or Spooner is the Mikado Pattern, also known as Daisy and Button with Crossbar and Thumbprint Band. Spooner most likely made by Richards and Hartley or by US Glass in the late 1880's or 1890's. The top edge of the holder is done with beautiful scalloped tips and the base is done in Daisy and Buttons. Vase measures approximately 7 inches high by about 4 inches across along the top.

Holder has some wear marks on the bottom and one of the scalloped tips is broken off, giving the appearance of 2 smaller tips. Still displays very well. Celery Vase has been "Black Light Tested" (see picture). This is a hard to find piece and would be a great addition to any collection!

Vaseline Glass Divided Relish Tray and Silver Basket Vaseline Glass Divided Relish Tray or Candy Dish in Silver Plated or Chrome Basket. This is a stunning Vaseline Glass 4 sectioned candy dish or relish tray with a lacy motif metal holder or basket. Dish measures 8 inches across by 1 ¾ inches deep. Dish is removable from the metal holder and can be used with or without the holder. The holder measures 8 ½ inches across by 1 ¾ inches deep.

Dish is beautifully done with a Sunburst or Sunray Pattern on the bottom and has 4 sections on the inside. Could be Indiana Glass Horseshoe #612, as per Weatherman's Colored Glassware of the Depression Era 2. As an update to her Book 1, Weatherman states "Number 612 - Rare pieces have turned up and are pictured below". She shows the candy dish with it's cover and mentions that it sometimes is found in a metal holder.

The Dish has a few small fleabites on the inside top of rim, the outside of top rim and some nicks on the bottom from age, use and mostly from setting down in the holder. These nicks are not visible with placed in the holder. Item has been "black light" tested (see picture). This is a wonderful old piece of Vaseline glass to add to your collection!

Daisy and Button Vaseline Glass Top Hat Vase Daisy and Button Yellow Vaseline Glass Top Hat Vase. This daisy and button pattern vaseline glass top hat vase measures 2-1/2 inches tall by 3-1/4 inches across the top of the hat. The glass top hat has an unusual look having two sides of the top brim slightly bent. The top hat has no mark or logo and has been black light tested (see picture). Hat vase is in Excellent Condition; it has a small fleabite and some roughness on the side near the bottom that does not impact its display. Our research references in Picture Book of Vaseline by Sue Davis that this vaseline top hat is possibly circa 1892 manufactured by U.S. Glass Factory-D. Duncan & Sons.
