These glass novelties became popular in the late Victorian era. Sometimes called Whimseys because of their whimsical shape and design, they were used as tiny bouquet holders, trinket holders, toothpick holders, salt cellars, pin cushions and as match holders. They were made in a wide spectrum of colors and patterns. As their popularity grew the glass houses started to produce these creations in all sizes, colors, and patterns

Imperial Turquoise Spun Glass Top Hat Vase
Imperial Turquoise Blue Spun, Line #701 Glass Top Hat Vase. This unusual horizontal fine rib-threading pattern turquoise blue glass top hat vase measures 2 inches tall by 3-1/4 inches across the top of the hat. It has some bubbles in the glass indicative of its age, a little scratch on the bottom of the brim and 2 small fleabites along the sides. It has no mark or logo but the pattern is indicative of Imperial Glass Co. 1936 to 1960 Reeded, Whirlspool, Spun, Line #701 as referenced in Gene Florence “Depression Glass, 15th Edition, (pg. 193). Hat is also similar to the Indiana Glass Co. “Old English Threading” pattern from the late 1920’s and similiar still to Mt. Washington pieces as per Ruth Webb Lee's book Victorian Glass. Whoever made it, this tophat is a great addition to your collection!

Daisy and Button Yellow Vaseline Glass Top Hat Vase. This daisy and button pattern vaseline glass top hat vase measures 2-1/2 inches tall by 3-1/4 inches across the top of the hat. The glass top hat has an unusual look having two sides of the top brim slightly bent. The top hat has no mark or logo and has been black light tested (see picture). Hat vase is in Excellent Condition; it has a small fleabite and some roughness on the side near the bottom that does not impact its display. Our research references in Picture Book of Vaseline by Sue Davis that this vaseline top hat is possibly circa 1892 manufactured by U.S. Glass Factory-D. Duncan & Sons.

Daisy and Button Light Blue Camphor Glass Top Hat Vase. This daisy and button pattern light blue camphor glass top hat vase measures 2-1/2 inches tall by 3-1/2 inches across the top of the hat. The hat has 2 small chips underneath the rim and the inside bottom has a swirl mark or cloudiness that appears to have happened in manufacturing. This does not deter from its beauty or rare look. You can barely see a manufacturer’s mark of a stretched W on the bottom right by the cloudy swirl area. This logo could possibly be the L.G. Wright Co.’s mark.
