Issun Boshi, One Inch Boy w/ Geta's Japanese Doll
This is from an estate and likely a souvenir of Japan. This was acquired as a set originally and includes a pair of Geta's (Japanese sandals) and a doll representing the one-inch boy or Issun Boshi. You can read the folktale on the internet, easy to find lots of references. The Geta represents the place he was found by the Emperor's guard. His placement for display is on one end of a Geta. The sandals are in excellent condition, black lacquer, the doll is also in excellent condition. A peg is mounted underneath to give him his sort of kneeling position, the face and hands appear to be hand carved and painted wood, not quite sure, the eyes are recessed slightly into the face and painted a different color. Extremely cute little diorama.
