Acoma Wedding Vase Signed Pottery Native American An Acoma wedding vase, measures 5" across, mouth to mouth and stands 6 1/2" high to the top of the handle. The bottom is marked, "Acoma N.Mex." and there is a pencil signature that, at least to me, is unreadable, perhaps someone will recognize it from my picture. No chips or cracks but it has little nicks overall. Lots of tiny little chips. Perhaps this is a fault in the clay? A few spots where the paint is rubbed as well. Likely a result of age. I do not know the age of this piece.

3417
Tomasita Montoya San Juan Pueblo Pottery Dish A smaller vessel from the San Juan Pueblo by Tomasita Montoya. The dish measures 6 1/4 inches in diameter and stands 1 5/8 inches high. Aside from a small chip at the edge, it's in excellent condition. The chip is pictured for you, it appears that it was a small bubble in the clay and the spot was weakened and then chipped. Very small spot. Impressed in the bowl are 4 petals alternated with 4 pistils curled at the ends. Entire perimiter of the flower is dotted with a whitish paint. I believe a fairly early piece. The bottom is inscribed and signed with very shallow markings. I had to do a rubbing in order to read them well enough to ascribe this to Montoya.

From the internet;
Tomasita Montoya (1899-1978). This master potter’s work can be found in numerous collections and galleries such as the Heard Museum, the University of Kansas Museum, among many others. She is cited in Southwestern Pottery Anasazi to Zuni by Hayes and Blom, among others. Tomasita is one of the original seven potters from the 1930s who was part of the San Juan Revival.
