Circa: 1878-81 Condition: Vintage Used Gravy cracked Size: See description Type: Porcelain Country of Origin: United Kingdom Manufacturer: Bates Walker & Co.
Antique Blue Transferware, footed, oval, Open Vegetable and Covered Gravy bowl set. This beautiful pedistal Vegetable Bowl or Compote and Covered Gravy Bowl set was made by the Bates Walker and Co., Staffordshire England. Circa 1878 to 1881. Bottom is marked with the kneeling nude potter inside a circle with the pattern name Doric, Bates Walker & Co. around the outside of the circle. Below the mark is says Late Mayer. It looks like the bowl or compote could have had lid like the gravy boat. The large bowl is in beautiful condition with no repairs, chips, cracks or crazing. It measures 13 1/4 inches long, 8 3/8 inches wide and 4 5/8 inches high, including the handles. The smaller serving bowl or gravy boat has two large cracks at one handle and at the base or foot. The lid is in great condition with a couple small chips on the bottom lip that you don't see when it is sitting on the bowl. It has an opening for a spoon to sit in the bowl with the lid on. The small bowl measures 9 inches long, 5 3/8 inches wide and 4 5/8 inches high including the handle. With the lit the height is about 6 3/4 inches tall. Price is for the footed vegetable or footed compote and the gravy boat lid. Considering the cracks I am not including it for any value other than including it in the set. |
