This is a wonderful hand painted Limoges tankard marked Jean Pouyat, Mark 5, 1891-1932. The cavalier is wearing a dark green outfit, and is holding a tankard and smoking a pipe. The detail of the painting is exquisite. The lace collar and cloth upon which he is sitting are embellished with raised enamel, as is the handle of the pipe. The smoke coming out of the pipe is well done, as are the hair and facial features. There is gilded trim, which is quite worn on the handle. The background is shaded with tans and browns. Aside from a light scuff on one side of the tankard, the condition is lovely! |
