These three sheets of photo engravings, depicting giants in the field of commerce, education and philanthropy, were made in the early 1800's for D. Appleton and Co. by the prestigious American Bank Note Co. Employing the finest engravers, the images that ABN Co offered were of the highest and most durable quality. The well-known engravings offered here include that of Peter Cooper, Erastus Corning, Stephen Girard, Robert Fulton, George Peabody, John Jacob Astor and 15 other famous Americans.

Romantic Pictures of Couples In Love
Just the thing for young lovers in love! Four great romantic picutres of couples, ready to frame. One is a steel engraving depicting a delightful musical date, titled "A Game Two Can Play At" from a painting by John George Brown (1831-1913) and engraved by Illman Brothers. A second steel engraving, also by Illman Brothers, is of Romeo and Juliet. The other two are bookplate illustrations by the collectible illustrator Jean Leon Gerome Ferris (JLG Ferris) and portray Augassin and Nicolete (copyright 1897), and Tartuffe and Elmine. These would make a great engagement, wedding or shower gift!

Humboldt and Schiller Engravings
Two engraved portraits of legendary scientific figures. The first is of Baron Alexander Von Humboldt (1769-1859), whose portrait reads "Copyright 1881 by Henry J. Johnson From the latest portrait from life Henry J. Johnson, Publisher, New York." On the back, someone has written in ink a brief biographical sketch: "Founder of modern science of physical geograhy described in his picturesque book called "Cosmos" [sic] written in 1845." The Schiller portrait reads "From an original painting by Melcher of Berlin, Johnson Wilson & Co. Publishers New York." Each portrait bears a facsimile of the subject's signature beneath the portrait.
Condition: Excellent- A few tiny light spot
