1981 SAMMY JAY -- BURGESS ANIMAL FRIENDS 1981 Sammy Jay (PP#120) is the 13th cup plate from the Burgess Animal Friends series commissioned by the Thornton W. Burgess Society. The plate shows Sammy perched in his favorite oak tree to survey the Green Meadow. Farmer Brown's fence can be seen on the horizon as Sammy calls to his friends. This 3-1/2" diameter (50 scallop) copper blue hand-pressed glass cup plate (ltd. ed. 1,358) was designed by Nina Sutton, the molds were engraved by artist/engraver Alvin A. White, and produced by the Pairpoint Glass Co. of Sagamore, Ma. (USA). Mr. White's initials are stamped on the plate which is in MINT condition and comes with original papers....sorry not in box. Discontinued October 1983.

THE WEDDING PLATE - MAY 9, 1981 Though not officially part of the Thornton W. Burgess Commemorative series, this (PP#119) limited edition "Wedding Plate" is considered an accent to the series as all profits from the sale benefited the Green Briar Nature Center. The plate was commissioned by Mr.& Mrs. James VanBuskirk to celebrate the wedding of their son. Nina Sutton and Joy VanBuskirk designed the plate and Andrew Bourbon engraved the mould. The design features a cluster of three wedding bells with streamers centered on the plate. Family names, the date and shamrocks decorate the border. This 3-1/2" diameter (double/single/double edge) amethyst plate is one of a total of 3,400 plates issued in the limited edition...comes with copy of pamphlet - Mint

1982 THE BRIAR PATCH PAIRPOINT CUP PLATE The GREEN BRIAR SERIES was an annual,dated Limited Edition of holiday cup plates introduced in 1980 and ran until 1996 for the Thornton W. Burgess Society. The commemorative series features the Burgess animal characters celebrating in specific locations from his stories such as Smiling Pool, Green Forest and the Crooked Little Path. Each 3-1/2" diameter plate was designed by Nina Sutton and the molds were engraved by artist/engraver Alvin A. White and his initials are stamped on each plate. All cup plates are hand-pressed in lead crystal by Pairpoint Glass Co. of Sagamore, Mass. (USA). This 1982 cup plate(PP#147) is a light green, double-single-double scallop edge, and the third annual Limited Edition cup plate in the series. It features one of the favorite settings from Thornton W. Burgess adventures of Peter Rabbit. In this scene, "Peter seeks the safety of the briars as Reddy Fox stalks along the Crooked Little Path. Overlooking the moonlit Briar Patch is Hooty Owl, perched high in the old willow tree." The date, 1982 is in foreground boulder. The plate is in MINT condition and comes with original pamphlet - sorry not in box.

This 1986 cup plate (PP#429) is amber, has a special etched 30 scallop edge and the seventh annual Limited Edition cup plate in the Green Briar series. It was introduced February 7, 1986 commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Thornton W. Burgess Society. The plate features nine favorite animal characters circling the special plate edge. The color amber was chosen for the plate as it most resembled the bronze plaque with the same design which stands at the entrance of the Briar Patch Conservation Area. The plate is in MINT condition and comes with a copy of original pamphlet - sorry not in box.

This emerald green, 50 scallop plate features Happy Jack sharing his Christmas wish with one of his feathered friends perched high on top of an evergreen tree. The design was adapted from an original series of Christmas cards that Harrison Cady illustrated for Thornton Burgess in the 1920s.
