Since 1826, Herend has produced one of the most outstanding and distinctive porcelains in a small village near Budapest, Hungary. Each piece is handpainted by the Herend artists. This piece was obtained by me around 1979. Rothschild Bird (RO) by Herend is a handpainted bird, floral, insect design on porcelain. This exquisite round reticulated open work plate measures 9-3/8" in diameter. The Rothschild Bird design is featured in the center and surrounded by a pierced openwork floral border in lovely pastel colors. The slightly flaired plate has a scalloped edge trimmed in gold.The underside of base is marked in blue: Herend Handpainted Hungary #8434/RO. There are no chips or cracks--the condition is absolutely perfect as it has been the pride of my Herend collection!
