The GREEN BRIAR SERIES was an annual,dated Limited Edition of holiday cup plates introduced in 1980 and ran until 1996 for the Thornton W. Burgess Society. The commemorative series features the Burgess animal characters celebrating in specific locations from his stories such as Smiling Pool, Green Forest and the Crooked Little Path. Each 3-1/2" diameter plate was designed by Nina Sutton and the molds were engraved by artist/engraver Alvin A. White and his initials are stamped on each plate. All cup plates are hand-pressed in lead crystal by Pairpoint Glass Co. of Sagamore, Mass. (USA). This 1988 cup plate (PP#528) is green, 25 scallop edge with 3 dots and the nineth annual Limited Edition cup plate in the Green Briar series. The plate features "a place of high adventure and narrow escapes for the animals of the Burgess stories as well as a scene of quiet beauty to the casual observer". Peter Rabbit, Hooty Owl, Jimmy Skunk and friends are on the plate above the date 1988. The plate is in MINT condition and comes with the original pamphlet - sorry not in box.
